A treadmill at your desk may be the ultimate cure for a sedentary job but there are other measures you can take to get the slump out of your desk job. You need to get moving whenever you can. Although there are drawbacks to working in a home based office, I like the fact that I can get up and walk around intermittently to circulate my blood. There are a million excuses for standing and moving around at least once or twice per hour that don’t require a trip to the refrigerator. Who would really care if I stand up and stretch every 30 minutes? I might even do a couple of jumping jacks. I can pace while talking on the phone. If I need to use the bathroom, I can use one upstairs or downstairs instead of the closest one. Bravo for the home office! If your job is sedentary, you can still take measures to stand and walk. Offer to get coffee. Go to the farthest bathroom. Take the stairs. Take a short walk during your lunch break. Each time you return to your desk, adjust your posture. Frequent movement can add up to improved circulation and can actually improve your concentration!
