I love to eavesdrop in shoe departments where people are trying on shoes and having conversations with themselves. It goes something like this, ” It’s a little tight but I’m not gonna walk in them. These are out to dinner shoes. They are perfect for my dress.” That’s the Cinderella Syndrome. Or, “oh, you don’t have a size 8? Well how about a size 9? I”ll stick something in them so they fit.” Have you ever watched someone walk in shoes that don’t fit? Actually you probably have. Think back to the last runway show you might have seen on TV. The models are in and out of the garments so quickly that they stick their feet in what ever goes with the outfit, NOT the model. It’s actually quite humorous, and dangerous with the popularity of extra high platforms and wedges. More often the shoes are too large. If the shoe fits properly, there will be no need to carry your lipstick behind your heel. Loose shoes cause friction, blisters and tired toes from clenching them just to keep in the shoes. Shoes that are too small cause unusual pain and pressure points, resulting in corns and bunions. If your toes are hanging over the front of your sandals or doing more than peeking out of your peep toes, they are too small. I admit I have a pair or two of “out to dinner shoes” only because they are too high to go the distance or I don’t want to beat them up on the street, but even high heels should be comfortable to walk in if they fit properly.
