I never buy pants or any clothes for that matter in a store if I can’t see what I look like from behind. Perhaps that comes from my father’s idea of a joke when he mentioned how I looked in one of my outfits as I walked away. He was being playful but I was a sensitive teenager at the time which was pre J-Lo and Beyonce era. Ample rears were not considered an asset ( sorry) then and I was never quite sure what he meant. Most decent stores have a three way mirror somewhere in the dressing room but I am usually armed with a pocket mirror just in case because craning your neck doesn’t give you the right perspective. On one or two occasions, I have resorted to using my cell phone camera when I was without a mirror in my purse. Who is going to buy jeans that aren’t “good butt” jeans?

Here is what one store is doing to solve the rear view dilemma:

In the World Denim Bar sections of its Los Angeles and Newport Beach stores, retailer American Rag Cie has installed such all-seeing eyes at booty level in its fitting stalls.

The camera sends a streaming view of a customer’s derriere on a closed-circuit loop to a screen embedded in the dressing room’s mirror.

The company plans to eventually expand the concept to its Industrie Denim stores. Now you can know for sure there’s nothing between you and those Calvins.

You can actually watch a video of yourself walking away! Personally, I will stick to my mirror and camera for a still shot if necessary because the last thing I need is to confirm to myself that my father wasn’t joking at all.
