Well, wouldn’t you know that right on the heels of the Abercrombie Kids’ padded push-up bikini another controversial product would hit the U.S. market. Straight from Spain is the “Breast Milk Baby”, a nursing doll for little girls.

In a press release the doll’s maker says, “The Breast Milk Baby lets young girls express their love and affection in the most natural way possible, just like mommy. The Breast Milk Baby represents a revolution in design by teaching children the nurturing skills they’ll need to raise their own healthy babies. Just put on the fashionable top included with each Breast Milk Baby, bring the baby’s mouth up to the pretty flower, and enjoy the closeness, the loving bond between mother and child.”

So what is the big deal? When I was a kid we had the “Betsy Wetsy Doll” who drank from a bottle and wet her diaper. I don’t think she made headlines in the news. There is much discussion over which retailers will offer this doll in the U.S. Parents are nervous that it will send a message to their little girls that will surely lead them to growing up too soon. The Moral Majority must be behind this one. I would rather look at this from a different angle. This does NOT sexualize little girls like the padded bikini top. Think of how much fun a little girl could have who could nurse her dolly while her mom is nursing her baby. It might be just what her mother needs for a little peace and quiet. It is natural and not at all sexual unless you are uptight about the whole idea of breastfeeding in the first place. I think it is a harmless choice if you are willing to pay the $89. 00. They are available online so we will more than likely see them soon. I can’t wait to see how much of a stir it will cause the first time a little girl nurses her doll in public!
