Spring has sprung and summer is around the corner. That means that cropped pants in various forms will once again hit the streets. For those who are too shy to show a thigh but are too hot in ankle length capri’s, cropped pants have been a summer wardrobe staple. The problem is the proportion. I know that I tend to view certain fashion items from a vertically challenged perspective (yeah, I’m short) but in my opinion even tall women in cropped pants tend to cause tension in my neck as I just can’t embrace the lack of proportion when they are baggy and cut the leg at the widest part of the calf. Now, having said that, I am not against cropped pants by any means. There are some very cute versions and flattering cuts. The trick is knowing which ones they are. Outside of a yoga class, wide leg cropped pants are in my opinion the least flattering cut since they look like your pants are just too short. Unlike the longer wide leg pant, the look is further assaulted when they are worn with a heavy shoe like a sneaker or a wedge shoe vs. a wedge sandal. The result is a clownish look. The narrower the pant, the slimmer the look. There are many styles of cropped pants out there so look for a cut and length that flatters your body type and opt for a shoe that complements the look. When selecting a shoe, consider the fact that cropped pants literally cut your legs into segments so a matching shoe color will allow the eye to keep moving in a vertical direction. It’s the difference between “making it” and “breaking it” when it comes to the cropped pant as depicted below.
