The color of white (or absence thereof) is showing up again this spring and is as fresh as ever. Celebrities are showing at galas in head to toe white, which makes me wonder if this season’s little black dress will be the little white dress. I for one have very little white in my wardrobe except for the crisp white shirt that everyone must own….just because. I don’t love wearing white because frankly, I’m not sure I can keep it white. Also, I have the warm coloring that is better suited for a creamy white so I usually gravitate to the other shades of white, rather than a stark white. And I abhor white shoes even though I think I own a little white strappy wedge that I thought I had to have a couple of years ago when I tried to wear white capris. Obviously, they have made their way to the back of my closet, marking time until I replace them with something much more exciting.

I am finding myself very attracted to some of the fashion spreads I am seeing with white mixed with brown leather accessories. It is such a fresh look. It works with all shades of white. Metallics are a fresh way to wear white as well. I have a few pointers to keep in mind though if you want to add more white to your summer wardrobe. Remember that white reflects light just like all light colors, so if appearing smaller in any area is your goal, you might want to reconsider where you wear it. Never wear all white to a wedding unless it is your own. Don’t wear white near your face if you are tired or have dark circles under your eyes as it will only make them look worse. Cream and beige are variations on the theme if you are unsure about wearing white and can soften your look. The whiteness of your teeth is going to become more important. A little bit of a tan can make you glow in your white but be careful because bottled tans can stain your clothing. Never wear white underwear under your whites. Instead wear nudes. And just for kicks, wear shoes that are a mixture of white and brown, white and beige, tan, black, brown, metallic, leopard, or for that matter any color available…..just not white!
