The American woman LOVES her jeans and apparently American jeans are loved by women all over the world. Is there any other article of clothing that has the ability to occupy the average woman for hours on end while she tries on hundreds of pairs to find the perfect piece of denim to wrap her behind? Not only is she patient enough to sort through the thousands of options, but she is willing to sit, squat, lunge, and kick to test their forgiveness. The dressing rooms in a jeans department get as much action as any exercise class.

As if finding fit, style and comfort weren’t enough, the most flattering jeans should have just the right shaped yoke stitched into them in just the right place. The pockets should be in proportion and positioned to flatter the straightest hips as well as the curviest so don’t stop looking just because they fit. Now back that booty up to the mirror and take a good hard look. Here are some tips:

To start, avoid stiff denim which will flatten your butt and go for the pair with the spandex. They will lift your behind and accentuate the curves. A straight yoke will give you a square look. This should be avoided if you have narrow hips. Choose yokes that are angled if you are “ample” and curved if you want to look fuller.

Pockets that are perfectly placed for your size and figure type can make the vision of you walking away indelible. If you are short-legged, avoid pockets that are too low. They also have a tendency to make your rear look flat. If they are too high, your bottom will look large. They should be centered over the fullest part of you cheeks. The wider apart the pockets, the wider you will look. Angled pockets can be very flattering as long as they angle upward and not downward toward the side seams. Another consideration is the type of pocket. Flap pockets are great for the small person with no curves. They will give volume where it doesn’t exist so these are not for the amply endowed. If you want to draw attention to your best asset, embellished pockets are sure to do the trick. Very few manufacturers make jeans without pockets but when they do, you can be sure you are putting it all out there!

The bottom line is… if you get it right, you can walk away with pride!
