When it comes to fashion and home decor, I am convinced that I am not living my first life and have lived before. Maybe I am just too influenced by the old movies but clothing and accessories were so much better years ago. Hats, gloves, elaborate coats and bags were always worn by stylish women. Furniture and architectural detalsl in homes were much more interesting than some of the austere designs of the post modern era. Which brings me to one little fashion accessory which I have seen popping up in fashion spreads this year: the muff! Here is a little history on the muff according to Wikipedia:

muff is a fashion accessory for outdoors usually made of a cylinder of fur or fabric with both ends open for keeping the hands warm. It was introduced to women’s fashion in the 16th century and was popular with both men and women in the 17th and 18th centuries. By the early 20th century muffs were used in England only by women. It is also reported that the fashion largely fell out of style in the 19th century. It briefly returned in the late 1940’s and 50’s.

I actually own a genuine leopard muff that I bought several years ago at a vintage shop. I have never carried it although I have been tempted. I just had to own it. I do that sometimes. It’s as if my fantasy of living in a different era holds some truth just by the possession of an item. It is very cool….and would probably be very warm. I have often tucked my cold hands into the sweater cuffs of the opposite arms in search of a warm place to defrost my frigid fingertips. Perhaps I’ll find an occasion to carry my muff this winter. If only I’d had the courage to before they become a fashion trend again. There is something about wearing something that not everyone else wants.
