Last fall the fashion magazines hinted that capes were on the horizon as an answer to what to wear over the fuller dolman and kimono sleeves that have been showing up on blouses and sweaters. The problem is, they were very scarce as most were featured in European fashion spreads and very few were being sold in the US. I love the way capes and capelets look as featured in the photo above, but find the look difficult to pull off without some careful consideration to proportion if you’re not six feet tall. Fortunately, they come in all lengths and it is key to find the length that works well with your shape and the silhouette you are wearing. As it gets cooler outside, long gloves will become necessary to cover exposed arms unless you are wearing a warm sweater underneath. Another consideration is your bag. Obviously a shoulder bag will not work with capes and ponchos so totes, satchels and clutches will become the bags of choice. Enjoy the versatility that a cape has to offer.
