When you are Madonna or Cher you can get away with anything but should you? It is so difficult to age in this youth driven society even though there are more boomers now than ever. Shows like “Housewives of..” are full of 40 somethings and 50 somethings that push the envelop just a little too much. With extra long blonde extensions and manufactured faces, come extra short dresses, plunging necklines, skin tight clothes and in some instances, embarrassed teenage daughters. So where is the line drawn for dressing too young for one’s age? I have asked myself this many times. Do you wake up one morning and decide to trade the thong underwear for granny panties or is it a more gradual transition? When does one stop wearing a bikini if they still have a shape for one? When do you put down your Vogue magazine in favor of “More” magazine? When do you give up sleeveless tops?

I think the answer is when you start to look ridiculous. When you are indeed trying too hard. When it takes more time and energy to maintain all of the body parts that are showing than it does to work a full time job. If you are in doubt, ask a teenager, preferably your son or daughter if they would want to be seen with you. There are many books and articles written about how to dress for your age. Some are spot on and some are stodgy. Everyone can get by with a few youthful blunders if they carry themselves well but come on Madonna, what were you thinking in that get up?

Is Lourdes proud, or embarrassed?
