How real is too real when it comes to reality TV? Relationships are complicated but when they play out in front of millions of viewers who only see edited versions of the “real deal”, you wonder how they deal with the events in private. Take for instance the recent suicide of Russell Armstrong, the soon to be ex-husband of Taylor Armstrong. Careful editing depicted him as controlling and disconnected which supported the allegations of physical and verbal abuse toward Taylor. Add that to financial problems due to a huge law suit against him and the public exposure of his kinky sexual preferences and it was all a little too real. Armstrong, who suffered from a mood disorder among other things had remarked that the attention brought to his marriage through the Housewives of Beverly Hills was overwhelming and pushed them to the limit. He complained that reality TV had destroyed his life. Perhaps the reality was that Taylor was finally able to get out of her abusive marriage through the safety of the show and cast of characters. It leaves us wondering how the show will deal with the reality of his demise……..if it continues to air.
