Is it okay to wear a sheer top with a bra that shows? Does a black bra make sense under a white shirt? Or does a white bra cut it under a black sheer shirt? I’ve spoken before about how runway looks often don’t translate to real life street wear. I suppose I am somewhat biased based on my age but the visible bra has always bothered me. Then again, I don’t like straps that show either. This is not a prudish bias, it is simply about visual harmony for me. I like things that are continuous and flowing, not interrupted by unintentional focal points. Have you ever walked into a room that was overdecorated or a garden that was overly landscaped and didn’t know which way to look first? That’s how I feel about bras that show under sheer clothing. They often change the focal point and the piece loses its flow…..like clutter.

Bias aside, I am more impressed with how one is able to pull off the look in real life, not on stage or runway. If the wearer carries herself with sophistication and an element of modesty just by being low key, then I am open to the possibility of it working. I might not even notice. It is all in the attitude. Blatant “in your face” parading never sets well with me. Whenever someone’s carriage screams “hey look at me”, I am more inclined not to.

You choose, Skanky or Swanky?
