Have you ever wondered why people look like their pets? Here are my unsubstantiated muses about people and the pets they choose. In most families where blood lines are strong, the related have similar physical characteristics. They see themselves in each other and from the familiarity comes comfort and a feeling of belonging. Have you ever found yourself being drawn to someone without realizing that they may share some of your own traits? I know that I look at other women with short hair because I have short hair. I feel a certain way when I look at someone with a certain shape of blue eyes because my mother has blue eyes that are the same shape. I believe we are drawn to our dogs for similar reasons. I was never thrilled at having short legs myself but I grew up with Dachshunds and now I have Welsh Corgis. Perhaps it is my way of finding something endearing about short-leggedness that I can apply to my own body. That theory put aside, sometimes the opposite occurs and it is amusing to find a very large man walking a tiny Chihuahua or Yorkie. I have been seen walking a Great Dane……no, he was walking me. He obviously did not belong to me. (Actually he was dragging me down the street with him as he was trying to make a getaway. A saddle would have been more appropriate.) Maybe the vain choose dogs who reflect their familiar image and the not so vain are clueless. Hmmmm…
