Kaftans have been around forever in certain cultures but never have they been more exciting than now. The traditional kaftans of Morocco are worn for all occasions differentiated by the many types of fabrics from which they are made. Many designers have kaftan inspired looks ranging from swimsuit cover-ups, to silky tunics, dresses and full length gowns. No longer are they only for hiding figure flaws. They are elegant and airy and although some are quite sheer, they flow sensuously over the body and tend to be flirty without being fleshy. This season’s looks include metallics, tribal prints, and tropical inspired prints.

Here is one of my favorite tunics from Missoni which is so light that it is hard to believe it’s a knit:

If you are clever and have some oversize scarves hanging around, consider making your own version. Just a few folds and seams and wallah!
