These are some of my picks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala held on May 2. The event which honored the works of the late Alexander McQueen was sponsored by Vogue and its editor in chief, Anna Wintour. Tickets to the event were enormously expensive and the gala has been dubbed the Oscar night for the fashion community. It seems as though it was also a night for the somewhat younger starlets.

Among my favorite red carpet looks were: Gisele Bundchen who was actually wearing a McQueen was stunning in this :

Taylor Swift wearing J. Mendel had a rather sophisticated air about her considering her age:

Zoe Saldana in Calvin Klein:

Salma Hayek who was also wearing a McQueen would look good in a paper bag:

Ashley Green in Donna Karen was gorgeous:

I was neutral about Ashley Olsen’s Dior because the sleeves, although beautiful, were too much for her small frame:

As well as Jennifer Lopez, in her Gucci. I thought the flowered shrug shortened her neck and did not flatter her:

But her make up was impeccable:

I thought that Christina Ricci’s Zac Posen could have been a hit but it had an S & M quality to it that made it miss for me:

The biggest thumbs down in my opinion goes to Lucy Liu in her Vionnet. It was just not good!

And last but not least, the European Vogue editor at large, Hamish Bowles………..Hmmmmm….
