Open any fashion magazine this spring and the pages are filled with wide leg pants. I can’t say I’m surprised since most of us have filled our closets with skinnies for the past couple of years, and well, I guess that’s just the way it is. I also can’t say I’m bothered by the resurfacing of the trousers because they are rather comfortable and can hide your not-so-perfectly-shaped legs. Besides there is something very “old Hollywood glamour” about them. As with any other hot runway trend, there are tricks and modifications for making them street legal. That means finding a look that is right for your body type.

The good news is that wide leg trousers when worn with a heel, especially platforms and wedges, can really lengthen the legs. It is essential to wear them long however. If they are too short they will lose their drape, and consequently their sex appeal. Your shoes should barely show when you are standing but will look oh so sexy when you expose that high heel as you sit with one leg crossed over the other. While flat front pants are probably the most flattering, pleated pants can look great too. If you have forgotten how you look in this renewed silhouette, try on a high waisted version as well. Avoid them if you are short waisted as you don’t want your breasts to sit on your waistband! Another important detail is to wear a top that is close to the body. Always think about proportion when mixing your tops and bottoms. A loose, flowy top paired with wide leg pants will surely camouflage where you begin and where you end and will definitely tend to swallow you (up). Pair them with deep v-necks or cut in shoulders to lengthen your look and draw attention to great arms and shoulders. Short jackets and shrugs are the perfect complement, especially when your waistline is visibly defined.

This spring you will find them in many colors, some bright, some muted. Whether you choose to color block or go for a monochromatic look enjoy just a little freedom from the “skinnies”
