I am writing today’s post on my netbook in the car. We are headed to Vermont for a ski weekend so I will be away from my desk for a couple of days. I was a bunny slope skier when I was younger and then swore off skiing for many years, claiming that I just wasn’t comfortable going fast downhill on my feet and I hated being cold. Lets face it, there was more to it. I was out of shape and didn’t have the strength or balance to control my skis. I didn’t have enough muscle activity to raise my body temperature either. But that is all history. I took up skiing at the age of fifty in order to join my son and husband on the slopes when they took up snowboarding. I had that familiar trepidation but went for it anyhow. Would all those years of working out make me a better skier? I am proud to say that I am a decent intermediate skier now and even occasionally ski the expert trails. My point is, it is never too late to try something that challenges you physically whether it is a new sport or just a walk around the neighborhood. Getting in shape can enhance your enjoyment in everything that you do. If you hear a “Wahoo” in the distance this weekend, it is probably me swishing dowm a trail reveling in the benefits of being fit.
